Who is the Manitoba Police Commission?

About MPC

On November 15, 2010, portions of The Police Services Act were proclaimed and the Manitoba Police Commission was established. Three months later, on February 9, 2011, nine commissioners were appointed to the MPC. Three staff help the MPC meet its statutory obligations.

   The Manitoba Police Commission is responsible for providing advice to the Minister of Justice on regulation required under the PSA, consulting with the public on policing issues, developing a policy and procedures manual for use by all local police boards, developing an ethical code of conduct that all local police boards must abide by, arranging training for local police boards, assigning and receiving reports back from civilian monitors who observe independent investigations of police officers, conducting studies on issues referred to the MPC by the Minister, and performing other duties assigned by the Minister.

Chair Person

Rick Linden is the chair of the Manitoba Police Commission, and is a Sociology Professor and research fellow with the Centre for Defence and Security Studies at the University of Manitoba.
